We want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who has entered the World Charcuterie Awards for your support and patience. The delay in The World Charcuterie Awards has no doubt been as frustrating for you as it has been for our team that includes the experts, judges and sponsors working with us on these new and exciting Awards.
Thank you to everyone for bearing with us but thanks to DEFRA’s cooperation including various consultations, we are delighted to report we have pulled through overcoming most of the challenges due to the regulatory environment for importing Charcuterie products into the UK and are setting up a very easy process for importing Charcuterie judging samples into the UK from within the EU & ETA with an additional form from the remaining countries.

Samples for Judging
Every business that has entered the Awards will be required to send judging samples to a nominated address by the required date.
Samples must not weigh more than 2 kilos per product in order to comply with the import derogation. 400 grams/two packs/10-12 slices is probably sufficient, bearing in mind that each product will be judged by a minimum of three up to eight judges for medal contender products.
Submitting your Products
All entrants into the Awards will receive details for the labels for each submitted product – essential for judging identification purposes. As all products are judged blind, the product labels must be attached to the judging samples.
Packaging your Products
The World Charcuterie Awards are delighted to be working with their sponsor Woolcool, who pioneered sustainable insulated packaging.
Woolcool is offering FREE temperature-controlled packaging for the first 50 UK- based producers entering the 2023 awards who require their judging samples to be kept at fridge temperatures (0-8C) during transit.
Shipping from Abroad
For producers sending in their judging samples from outside the UK, all the necessary forms must be filled correctly. Details will be posted no late than the first week of June. Please note that all producers are responsible for their shipping/delivery costs and whilst the World Charcuterie Awards Ltd will work with the authorities, they cannot accept responsibility for any delays or wrong deliveries
We will update you as soon as we have approval of the forms and costs.
Judges
Our panel of judges is led by Head Judge Keith Fisher, Chief Executive of the Institute of Meat, backed by an Advisory Committee from here and abroad.
Our judges are Charcuterie Experts from the meat, hospitality and retail industries – makers, buyers, consultants, teachers, restaurateurs, bar & pub owners, retailers, chefs – plus top food writers.
To further guarantee fair, scrupulous and independent judging, no member of the World Charcuterie Awards team is allowed to take part in the actual judging and scoring of the entered products.

Marking the Products
Judges will work in teams of a minimum of three.

All Medal Contenders will be marked by a minimum of two judging teams.
Products will be marked out of 100 points according to the unique scoring system developed originally by the British Charcuterie Live Awards and updated by the World Charcuterie Awards Advisory Board.
Winning a Medal
Medals will be awarded
Gold for products scoring 90-100 points
Silver for products scoring 80-89 points
Bronze for products scoring 70-79 points
Every producer scoring 70 points+ wins a medal and will receive a certificate featuring the appropriate medal once the Award results are announced.
Medals can be used on the producer and/or importer’s websites and in social media, press releases, and point-of-sale display.
Medal stickers will be available to buy for adding to the product and a license can be bought for printing the medal on-pack.
Every Medal Winner will receive a Press & Social Media Support Pack.
